S.M.A.R.T. 1:1 Goals 2014 – 2015

Mission: Our mission is to prepare thoughtful, creative students that can problem solve and think critically about global issues will evolve as a result of an increase in student engagement  and access to more resources.  More individualized instruction with consistent feedback will help drive instruction that establishes more rigor on a daily basis and will result in an increase in student achievement.

In Grade 5, instructional time should focus on three critical areas:

(1) developing fluency with addition and subtraction of fractions, and developing understanding of the multiplication of fractions and of division of fractions in limited cases (unit fractions divided by whole numbers and whole numbers divided by unit fractions)

Math-By the end of the year Students will be able to do the following: 

Goal 1- Student will use various math websites to increase basic math facts through nightly practice and/or enrichment during class

Goal 2-  students will be able to craft math worksheets and or study guides, upload to a class folder for viewing by other peers

Goal 3- Students will be able to submit (1 or more) math worksheets electronically for grading and feedback

SCIENCE

The 2009 Science Standards implicitly and explicitly point to a more student-centered approach to instructional design that engages learners in inquiry. Inquiry, as defined in the revised standards, envisions learners: 

Are engaged by scientifically-oriented questions. 

• Prioritize evidence that addresses scientifically-oriented questions. 

• Formulate explanations from that evidence to address those scientifically-oriented questions. 

• Evaluate their explanations in light of alternative explanations, particularly those reflecting scientific understanding.

• Communicate and justify their proposed explanations 

Science-

Goal 1- Students will work throughout the school year to create and take notes on an online notebooks in a particular sub area of science  (Ex. Lab notebook)

Goal 2- Use media to enhance online notebooks throughout the year (Ex. Images, graphs, video) in order to synthesize information

Goal 3- Students will be able to use Power-point and or Smartboard Notebook for oral presentations and apply grade appropriate analytical skills to enhance presentation

Social Studies-

Goal 1- Students will work throughout the school year to create and take notes on an online notebooks in a particular sub category of Social Studies (Ex. Vocabulary, Native American Tribes, quick facts)

Goal 2- Use media to enhance online notebooks (Adding pictures, graphs, video) to synthesize information

Goal 3- Use Power-point and or Smartboard Notebook  for research to incorporate higher level skills 

Goal 4- Upload one writing sample to an online writing folder for peers to view (Ex. Student port-folio on H drive, Google docs, or Microsoft 360)
